Red Carpet Recap: 2010 Emmys

A little late on this one, but in all my business I had to squeeze in a quick Emmy recap since rehashing all the fashion and beauty is my favorite part of any awards show. I was slightly underwhelmed to be honest. I know the Emmys aren't the Oscars, but I didn't see a whole lot of looks that caught my eye. The ones that did however, are below. Which ones were your faves?

Glee's Heather Morris

Total beyond perfection here in my opinion. The glossy Old Hollywood without being too perfect waves, black liner, flawless skin and a vibrant lip. Plus in my world where more is more, I wish I had somewhere to wear this dress.

True Blood's Rutina Wesley

I know, just trade in the brown for blonde, slap the girl in sequins and it's the same as above. But, I can't help loving this look and seeing Rutina totally red lip diva glam and not all makeup free foul mouth Sookie's BFF Tara.

Keri Russell

Has she even been in anything lately? Who cares when you look like this. Obsessed with the textured side chignon with whatever the heck is in her hair. Reminds me of a messier version of my wedding 'do.

New: Les Khakis de Chanel

In honor of Vogue's Fashion's Night Out on September 10th during NY Fashion Week, Chanel created three new shades of Les Vernis Nail Colours, Les Khakis de Chanel. I'm really loving this trio of polishes - Khaki Brun, Khaki Rose, Khaki Vert - because they're the perfect fall transition shades for when you're over the corals, blues and brights for summer but not quite on board yet with the superdark plums and navys for winter. Click here to see swatches on nails via Sophy Robson's blog.

Which is your fave? Pick them up beginning September 10th for $25 each.

Sampar Bonweekend Kit

As summer winds down, it's time to squeeze in some last minute travel. I've talked about my disdain for mismatched travel products before and how much I love the Bliss Sink Side Six Pack because it packs all the basics for face, body and hair.

If you're looking to inject a little luxury into your travel routine, I just discovered Sampar's Bonweekend Kit (good weekend in French), which contains two Velvet Cleansing Milks to remove makeup and impurities, Equalizing Foam Peel to clarify and refine skin texture, Nocturnal Lifting Mask to energize and firm skin and Ultra Hydrating Fluid to moisturize and protect from pollution.

The products come packaged in a super-compact, travel-friendly size kit that's perfect for a weekend getaway and I love that the kit goes beyond just cleanser and moisturizer to include luxurious treatment products. Pick up for $25 at Beauty 360.

Test Drive: Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Foaming Scrub

I'm really not big on facial scrubs because they usually feel grainy and scratchy, but I picked up Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Foaming Scrub on a whim when I forgot to pack cleanser on one of my many trips. It was cheap, it was a cool blue color and in the recent heat wave, the word invigorating sounded pretty damn good.

The Experience:
A little goes a long way with this facial scrub - all you need is a pea-sized amount. I loved the fact that it created a rich, foamy lather to take the edge off of the scrubbing beads, which actually felt smooth instead of scratchy and harsh. And thanks to a dose of menthol, this is one of those wake up your senses (and clear your sinuses) type of scrubs. If you're like me - a zombie until a cup of coffee - this is the perfect morning pick me up.

Due to lots of travel, I had been neglecting my usual facial routine so I was in desperate need of a good exfoliation, and this scrub made my skin feel soft, smooth and decongested. Plus it's gentle enough for daily use.

The Verdict:
If you love the feeling of freshly scrubbed skin everyday this is your gig. The foamy lather combined with the scrubbers really give skin a good deep cleansing, plus the jolt of menthol refreshes skin, and keeps it feeling that way long after rinsing. Pick up at drugstores nationwide.

New for Fall: Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo

Eyeshadow can sometimes be a tricky animal, with the which shade goes with what problem. Chanel has the solution with the new Ombres Contraste Duo/Eyeshadow duo. Each pairing houses two complementary shades in two unique textures.

The shimmery light shade is a creamy powder that can be worn alone for a radiant sparkly look, as a base to the deeper shade, or as a highlight around the inner corners and brow bones. The deeper shade is a richly pigmented matte meant to contour and create depth.

Check out the shade pairings below:

  • Khaki-Clair Hunter green / Ivory
  • Taupe-Delicat Brown taupe / Soft peach
  • Berry-Rose Plum rose / Soft pink
  • Misty-Soft Plum brown / Lavender grey
  • Bleu-Tendre Navy / Silver blue
  • Gris-Subtil Grey / Silver
My favorite duo is Misty-Soft, which is top right in the pic. Something about the plummy brown and soft lavender grey has me excited for the upcoming fall season.

Fall 2010 Collections: Clinique Bigger, Brighter Eyes

Clinique's new fall collection, available now, centers around brightening and defining eyes, a concept near and dear to my heart since I feel like my eye area is always a little lackluster. The two limited edition newbies are Quickliner for Eyes Intense, a silky smooth liner with rich pigment, and High Impact Mascara in Brightening Black, a rich black that looks like it's spiked with a hint of navy.

Bigger, Brighter Eyes is broken down into three looks: Fresh, Fun and Flirty and all product recos can be found on the Clinique site. That's the Fresh look to the left.

Clinique's fall collection is definitely a step away from the typical deep wines and grays we see for the season. I'm feeling the lightened up look. What do you think?

Test Drive: L'Oreal Sublime Bronze SPF 15

It's been a sad little beachless summer over here at BITNB, and consequently I am paler than the Cullens. Now that I'm on a two week vacay, I've desperately (but safely!) been trying to impart a little glow. Enter L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Lotion SPF 15, which is genius to me because you can be outdoors, not get burned, yet still get a (faux) tan.

The Experience
I usually apply my self tanners at night - stained sheets be damned! - because I hate walking around all day with the yucky self tanner feeling and smell. This actually had a nice fresh fragrance that only slightly took on that DHA odor we all know and hate later in the day. The consistency felt like straight sunblock - very rich. It definitely took a few minutes to dry, and I wouldn't recommend wearing your tightest fitting jeans when you have this on.

I went about my business and by nighttime I was golden brown - seriously, the color that develops is A-Mazing. No orange in sight, it's a lovely natural looking brown shade that even shows up on pale skin. If you need to look tan in a hurry, this is your formula.

The Verdict:
For $9.99 this is a no-brainer. The tan that develops is beautiful, natural looking and rich, and you have the added protection of SPF 15 if you plan on being outdoors all day. Available at drugstores nationwide.

Beauty on the Go: Benefit Sunday Funday Palette

It's no secret I'm obsessed with palettes because they're perfect if you're a frequent traveler attempting to not pack your entire beauty closet for a 2-day trip (a la moi) or if you're the type who wants to get ready in the morning with minimal drama and have everything you need in one spot.

One of two new palettes debuted by trend artists, and daughters to co-founder Jean Ford, Benefit Sunday Funday is the perfect all-in-one (literally, all you need besides this is foundation/concealer and mascara) palette with colors that actually go together and make sense.

Included:
  • Hoola is a neutral-toned medium-dark bronzer with an almost matte finish
  • Benetint is a natural pinky berry flush stain that can be used on lips or cheeks. This is so genius they included this because it's so versatile
  • Shimmering Rose is a semi-sheer pinky gloss with gold shimmer. Pretty much works on every skin tone and adds just enough color for when you're doing neutral eyes, but is pale enough for when eyes are smoky
  • Shimmering Bronze is a sheeny bronze with rich pigment. I'm a girl who knows her bronzes, and this is a good one
  • Pink Satin is a light pink with subtle peach tones. Great as a base shade
  • Light Champagne is a light yellow gold perfect for highlighting or as a base
  • Pretty in Plum is a plum purple that adds that extra pop in the palette. Use it for a purple smoky eye or to line bottom lash line
  • Toasty is a warm medium/dark brown. Hallelujah there's a liner in here! Palettes rarely contain them

Available now at Sephora for $38.

Fall 2010 Collections: Smashbox Masquerade

I'm completely in love with the Fall 2010 collection from Smashbox, dubbed Masquerade. Does anything say fall better than rich metallic shades of plum, forest green and navy? Some standouts include the Liquid Liner and Lash Overlay, which can be used as a liquid liner, then added to tips of lashes post-mascara application for an extra little pop.

Masquerade fall 2010 collection:

  • Masquerade Eye Shadow Palette ($35) is one of my favorite new fall palettes because it contains rich jewel tones with lighter neutrals. Plus, this palette is arranged horizontally in trios so you never have to wonder which goes with what.
  • Masquerade Baked Fusion Soft Lights Palette ($32) in Illusion. I can't get enough Soft Lights; they give the most warm, subtle sheen to cheekbones.
  • Masquerade Liquid Liner & Lash Overlay ($19) in Teal and Bronze
  • Masquerade Creamy Cheek Color & Brush ($29) in Warm Pink, with a built-in blending brush so color goes on soft and diffused.

  • Masquerade Lip Enhancing Gloss ($19) in Reveal (golden nude) and Disguise (golden pink)
Everything is currently available at Sephora.

Beauty Crush: Phyto Phytomist Instant Hydrating Conditioner

It takes a lot for a hair care product to impress me, and Phyto Phytomist Instant Hydrating Conditioner has completely blown me away. First things first: don't let the name fool you, this isn't some garden variety leave in conditioner and I don't use it in place of a regular rinse-out version. It's really best used as a do-it-all styling product.

When hair is still damp spritz this lightweight leave-in all over, and then air dry or blow dry. Whether I let dry naturally or blew it out I was floored by the results. My hair was perfectly smooth with nary a flyaway in sight, was light and bouncy and not weighed down, wasn't stiff, sticky or crunchy, felt so silky smooth and had insane glossy shine (and on a blonde, that's no easy feat). This is literally my new miracle product.

While it's specifically for color treated hair because it guards against color fade, boosts radiance and restores moisture levels anyone who wants incredibly smooth frizz free hair that's super shiny should be using this daily. I love this so much I don't even bat an eye at the $26 price tag. Scoop up at Sephora.
